“St. Dominic Savio stands for a holistic and integral development of the student – to help develop the student’s spirit, mind and body.” Educating for a happy life in Don Bosco’s way is a unique contribution to this science of holistic education. Thus, the secondary section aims at providing ample opportunities to children based on Multiple Intelligence and then evaluates them on that, thus leading to the holistic development of the child. The child is given the experience and knowledge to do even the smallest of jobs with perfection so that he grows stronger to take on the bigger assignments.
Secondary daily routine: The school begins at 7.30am and ends at 1.40 pm. They have 10 periods of 30minutes duration with two breaks of 15minutes each at 9.25 am and 11.10 am.
School Uniform: Grey shorts or trousers, white shirts, with the school Logo on the shirt pocket, black shoes and black socks. In winter, navy blue cardigan and in the rainy season only black rainy shoes. On days when Sports and Activities take place, the Sports Uniform consisting of the Jersey, Track pant in the respective House colour and sports shoes.
Academics: We have approximately 50 students in each class. A specially designed syllabus book and set daily time table is chalked out for the students.
Subjects like English, Marathi, Hindi, French, Science, Math, Algebra, Geometry, History/Civics and Geography are included in the syllabus. Religion/Moral Science, Scouts, Social Service, Personality Development and Environmental Studies are the graded subjects.
Scouts, Social Service, Personality Development and Environmental Studies consist of theory as well as practical. In the practical part, several assignments are given and camps are conducted, providing an opportunity to the students to develop their social skills.
Other Co-Curricular Activities: This year the school introduced a Comprehensive Program which is an approach by which schools utilize all opportunities for school based activity to develop students holistically. This Comprehensive Program is a culmination of ideas of experienced people, which aims at including various activities for students within the school hours. This new program will be followed for three years covering the all round development of the child under CCE
The Secondary section has their sports and activities on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
In Sports, we do athletics, football, basketball, hockey and cricket. Under the Activities program we do music (both vocal and instrumental, dance, speech and drama, yoga, tai chi, clay modeling, handwriting, art and craft.
Besides this, several other activities and competitions are held in school like assemblies, house days, field trips, elocutions, quiz, singing and instrumental competition, sports festival, picnic and various festival celebrations.
Evaluation: Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) is undertaken for the students from Std V to VIII.
Regular class tests and assignments- Formative Evaluation are given throughout the semester using minimum 5 tools out of the suggested 8 tools (oral work, practical, activity, class test, project, home/class work, day to day observation, others).
One Terminal and one Final Examination– Summative Evaluation is held each Semester – October/April.
At the end of each term for each subject, the marks obtained in formative and summative evaluation are to be added and then converted into grades.
The students of the Std IX and X have a unit test in each term and one Terminal and one Final Examination for the students of Std IX and One Terminal and Preliminary Examinations for the students of Std X.
