About Us

Our Mission is to compassionately reach out to economically disadvantaged school-going youngsters from our neighbourhood and to provide them with educational, cultural and recreational facilities thus enabling them to develop into independent and productive citizens of our country and to create a meaningful future for themselves.

Our Focus is to provide underprivileged children with a conducive environment for study; to help them understand, accept and deal effectively with the influences of their environment and take personal responsibility for their lives.

Our Strategies include facilities and coaching in study, sports and cultural activities.

BACKGROUND : Evening Study Project started 10 years back by some volunteers  (ex-students of Dominic Savio). The number of children were about 235 and there was no much interest put into this project. So the Fathers of Dominic Savio took up this project to bring education to the lives of these less fortunate children.

These students are poor and marginalized coming from the slums and bastis (villages) of the vicinity of Dominic Savio School. They belong to the vernacular language schools. They go to various Government schools during the day and come back to study at Dominic Savio in the evening. They are deprived of good education because the municipal schools do not run well. Besides that these students do not have study facilities at home. They have small houses with lots of noise around and there is no one to help and guide them at home. Because these parents too are uneducated. At present we have about 235 children.

The children leave their home for school at 8.00am. They come back from various schools at 5.30pm to Dominic Savio and we teach them games on our ground. At 6.15pm they go to study. There are a few teachers to help them and guide them in their studies. After an hour they have a small break where, whenever possible if there are any snacks we give it to them. Because from the school they come hungry, they have very little to eat at home and so when they leave home they hardly eat any breakfast. After a small break they have tuition classes especially in Mathematics & English. We have seven paid teachers to help them. By 8.30pm they finish their studies and go home.

EXTRA-CURRICULUM ACTIVITIES : Besides the games and sports, we also have stage performances on various occasions to build up their self-esteem and bring out the talents. We take a lot of pain in training them to be good leaders and good citizens. We also have meeting with the Parents to brief them about are Programmes and ask for their suggestions. These parents
are very co-operative.

OUTCOME : Because of the help they get from this project their performances in studies in their own school is tremendous. They also have performed well in the Government Exams. Over the years their self-esteem is built up and they have become the agents of spreading education in the slums and their villages. They are also the agents of change in society. Some go for their higher studies, others start working and earning for their families. Parents are also made aware of the value of education and their right for education. There is joy and happiness on the faces of children and their parents. Because of the values imparted to them there is respect for moral and religious values.

OUR DREAMS : To make these children take places in society, be their support in the family. We give them nourishment for their bodies and look after their hygiene. We would like to give this to many more children of the slum and the bastis (villages). Our dream is to reach out to at least 1000 children; so that our education brings meaning to their lives and they live a decent life.
