In the Primary Section of St. Dominic Savio High School, Andheri the teachers work with children between the ages of five and eleven and teach all of the subjects in the Maharashtra State Curriculum. The school timings are from 7.45 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.
The teachers are responsible for the children’s educational, social and emotional development under their care for Key Stage 1(ages 5 to 7) and Key Stage 2 (7 to 11).
Throughout , the teachers are continuously trained to keep up to current events with new methods and ideas in education. Workshops training are conducted by professional and local authority.
Education at Dominic Savio aims at making children capable of becoming responsible and useful members of society. Knowledge, skills and attitudes are built through learning experiences and opportunities created for students in school. It is in the classroom that they can analyze and evaluate their experiences, learn to reason, to question, to investigate and to think independently.
The students are evaluated on the basis of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) which refers to a system of school-based assessment of students that covers all aspects of students’ development.
Extracurricular activities outside the classroom has a positive impact on academic achievement and pro-social behaviors on children. Activities also help reduce school drop-out rates as well as emotional and behavior disorders.
At Dominic Savio, extracurricular activities help our savions grow in and out of the classroom, but the key factor is keeping it fun.
One of the great benefits of extracurricular activities is creating new opportunities to learn to think about themselves and to learn what they like and don’t like. Various competitions like elocutions, singing, drawing and creative work are held both at school level and inter-school level.
Sport touches many aspects of lives in students—their health and well-being, their social networks and their sense of social contentedness. And in Dominic Savio there are plenty of sports to choose from. From playing soccer, hockey, basketball and cricket, the students are also trained in skating and athletics. What is the key is to value the process over the result when playing a sport. Being a good sportsperson develops character.
