As part of the preparations for the new academic year, an in-house phonics workshop was conducted for the teachers of the Pre-Primary Section on 12th June 2026. Led by members of the Pre-Primary teaching staff, the workshop reflected the school’s culture of continuous learning, collaboration, and professional growth through the sharing of skills and expertise among colleagues.
The session began with a fun icebreaker activity centred on animal sounds, creating an enthusiastic learning atmosphere.
Teachers were introduced to phonics through interactive videos and actions designed to make sound recognition enjoyable and effective. Activities such as alphabet riddles, dumb charades, phonics sound bingo, and alphabet bingo encouraged active participation. The workshop focused on key phonics concepts, including vowel sounds, syllables, consonants, magic ‘e’ words, and r-controlled words.
The session concluded with a practical training video illustrating effective strategies for teaching reading through phonics sound blending, making it a valuable and enriching learning experience.
